I think the cars are too long tbh. It reduces the sense of speed

Formula 1 cars would look better if they were shorter

The old ones are so much more beautiful with their short length. Thanks to the ban of fueling, they look like racing limousines.

So that's why the racers can't pass anyone for jack shit on monaco. It wasn't any easier in the 90's-early 00's, and now they're a whole meter longer.

The logical conclusion is that, soon, F1 cars will be able to carry a hen party.

It's suprising how long the f1 cars have gotten. I always liked the MP4-13 for it's shorter wheelbase compared to the current cars. I thought the main reasons for the longer wheelbase throughout the years was the ban on refuelling (in 2010) and the introduction of hybrid systems, like KERS (in 2009) and MGU-H (in 2014).

So turning in a modern F1 must feel like turning in a very low truck. Hideous.

Why measure the cars at the end by the wheelbase why not have it from the very farthest point ?

they got a bit longer since they banned refueling to accomodate the larger tanks

Knew they'd increased wheelbase but didn't realise the 2017 cars were that huge. F1 cars have looked increasingly cumbersome and ungainly since the 90s. Seeing the 1978 Ferrari 312 pocket rocket next to modern stretch limo incarnation of F1 really drums home the aesthetic decline

you didn't mention the refuelling ban length increase? That was substantial. I think the length of f1 cars increased more in 2010 than any other single year.

    Cool video!
The length of the cars grew when the refueling ban was added, to fit the larger fuel tanks.

Forgot to mention the change in center of gravity. By extending the length of the car, they've also lowered the total ride height compared to previous years by a significant amount.

You only talk about wheelbase but not total lenght and pretty much every modern car is wider than 2m if you include the mirrors!
